Campaign to end the rat run through Fant
Cars hurtle through Bower Place, along Upper Fant Road, slow through the speed ramps on Hackney Lane, before accelerating into Gatland Lane and then along Glebe Lane - all in a bid to avoid the Tonbridge Road. Yet these are residential areas and residents along all three area are complaining that nothing is being done to address this problem. This year the Greens have focused on making our roads safe and we will be calling at every door along the rat run to gain support for the petition for Kent County Council to take action. We need a minimum of 100 signatures to ensure that the problem gets debated by Maidstone's joint transportation committee. This is an essential step in tackling the problem.
We have seen great results from from residential roads that have been paved, turned into 'home zones' and have 20mph speed limits, and generally we are keen to avoid speed ramps and cameras if possible, however we want to know your thoughts on what can be done to improve these roads. The solutions may well be different for each road and residents will have the best ideas about what is needed, so please sign the online petition below and tell us what you think will work best and where.
